MSN SEO Techniques
One of the most common prejudices SEO is that if you optimize a site for the benefit of Google then ranks well with other search engines. However, the three major search engines (Google, Yahoo and MSN) all use different algorithms that require different things. Google has a mixed bag, but it certainly china to inbound links, while Yahoo loves keyword dense content sites. This leaves us with MSN, the main consideration in determining the results of the research seems to be strongly based on the internal linking structure and incoming links. But these are far from alone SEO techniques to consider.
The MSN search engine Meta
MSN Search is a meta search engine. While Google openly ignores meta tags in most cases MSN blatantly uses to index the pages and discover your keywords. At the very least you need to include the "Keywords", "description" and "title" meta tag. The main keywords should be included in all of these with your main keyword appears first in the tag "keywords" meta. All tags should include keywords that you consider most important to your site.
Moreover, because MSN uses meta tags, you must be careful not to spam with numerous examples of the keyword or keywords use of incorrect or inaccurate. At present, meta spam does not seem to be a problem with this forum but it's only a matter of time and when change occurs you will not receive any warning before your site is penalized.
Page Layout and code
The encoding of a page is always a problem with search engines and, therefore, should be important to you. If a crawler is unable to scan your site, so it is very unlikely to be indexed and certainly not receive the high ranking you want. Keep the amount of HTML or other programming languages on your page to an absolute minimum and ensure that the page size is below a maximum of 150KB.
Another problem a bit 'controversial is the use of tables. Again, this brings us back to a creeping problem. MSN does not condemn the use of tables on everything. However, this forum does not like to see the tables within tables within tables. This can be a problem if you do not use CSS and are based on tables to clean up your page. Including another table in the page layout begins to make things look messy from the point of view of this forum.
Keyword Density
Keyword density is an area of SEO that always causes arguments. No search engine openly publishes their needs in this area, but is widely accepted that, while Google has strict rules in place that require minimal use of keywords both Yahoo and MSN have a much higher tolerance for higher levels. Google prefers to only 2% to 3%, while the density MSN and Yahoo will allow 5% to 6%, maybe even a bit 'higher.
Of course this raises the problem that the optimization for MSN may have you flagged as spam by Google. Fortunately, MSN and Yahoo, both take keyword stemming and keyword variations into account when doing their calculations. Use keywords plurals and stems, and try to ensure that Google does not exceed the ideal of 2% for each of these variants. Furthermore, it is imperative that your writing does not prevent SEO copy writing that is appealing to human visitors.
Site Infrastructure and SEO
The infrastructure web site is important for MSN. Many sites, including mine, have shown excellent results in MSN based on the internal text links and associated anchor text. Try to use the primary keyword for a page like its title and so that you use this keyword in all navigation bars on your site. This will have a very positive influence on this forum.
Moreover, as with all search engines, MSN wants to be able to reach every page of your site quickly and easily. Text links are best for surfing and all pages should be reached within three clicks from your homepage. If you use graphical navigation bars then you should take them into account or to change the text link or a site map that is a click away from your own site.
Importance of incoming links
Inbound links count as votes for your site. The more votes you get from the better sites, but also the most influential of the sites that provide a link to your major will be your search engine results. In all honesty, MSN currently seem to favor quality over quantity of links, but the algorithms of search engines are renowned for their evolution to try to plan and get relevant links from popular pages. The most important aspect of every single inbound links is the anchor text. You need to get webmasters to use the primary keyword for the page that the link as anchor text.
MSN SEO Conclusion
MSN Search is gaining a bit 'of land on its main competitor, Google. Microsoft is unlikely to sit back and be happy with just taking a small share of the market in order to optimize for MSN in order to ensure that you get positive results from their search engine is a good idea. And 'possible to optimize pages and content for all the search engines if done properly and with care ....
