The wizard for using the Wizard

Have you ever been stuck in traffic and wished you could fly? How about your mother-in-law to change into a frog, or even a yak? Magical powers are the stuff of fantasy and an important way for us mere mortals types for an imaginary, though a useful outlet.

Wizards are available in different shapes and types, but are recognized as archetypes of the world. This along with dragons and the Yeti, is an interesting phenomenon that the need for a human being with supernatural powers seems to permeate almost all cultures.

The Native American shaman or medicine man in their corner. Through dreams and visions that would lead people to the point where game was abundant and act as a doctor for all that was in trouble, their tribes. Often we would walk with animal spirits and provide policy advice to tribal leaders. Their strength and usefulness is mainly herbal tradition.

In Europe, the magicians are what we mean they are today. Usually were described as men who seek a venerable old arcane knowledge of the elements, plants and mystical forces of the universe. The women were not considered sorcerers, witches, but rather calls. Today, the witch term refers to a specific in-law.

The popular game of Dungeons and Dragons, as well as popular fiction like Lord of the Rings games like World of Warcraft and reinforce the European image of the wizard. The long flowing robes and white beard are typical of this archetype and make the wizard easily identifiable in the narrative. Sometimes wizards take chopsticks in these incarnations or have a family member, a guide animal that will make their offer and act as an advisor.

During the Middle Ages magicians are thought to be evil or possessed by evil spirits. Often the progress of science were seen as potential black magic frowned upon. If you consider burning a person at the stake or tortured as a grimace. Actually, in Europe, making a scientific discovery was not something that is often advertised.

In Asia, however, the wizard was revered and thought a lot about. And legal advisers were often regarded as men of science, even if the arcane nature. The image of the magician Asia was almost the same as their European counterparts, but this may be due to the fact that almost everyone wore clothes in Asia, something we Westerners are trying to do all weekend if we can.

The image of the magician or magical being is what gives us all a little 'escape. Who says they never thought of magical powers, could be just one of the most boring people on earth. Wizards were often seen as having unknown powers, usually their magic was just an excuse by normal people for things they did not understand, a way to explain the unknown. Yet the image persists even through the age of science we are enjoying. Wizards do not offer an escape from the unknown in these days, but rather a flight into the unknown .......
